We are pleased to announce our 12th annual Arts in Your Classroom teachers' conference, presented in collaboration with the Santa Clara County Office of Education and San Jose State University's Lurie College of Education. This evening conference will engage educators in a series of hands-on arts integration workshops, inspirational presentations, and opportunities to network with educators, peers, and artists.

This year's conference theme is: Engaging Students in the Sciences Through the Arts. At the conference, educators will investigate effective approaches to incorporating the arts into the classroom curriculum and enhance their capacity to connect learning in the arts to learning in STEM subjects. Conference highlights include:

  • Keynote conversation with Dr Kwang Sung, laryngologist at Stanford University, discussing what he sees as the relationship between the arts and sciences as well as a dissection of the study of acoustics. To accompany him, soprano and current teaching fellow in his department Jennifer Bergeron will perform - and play subject to a laryngoscopy examining the working of her larynx while singing. To join the two of them, Rick Turner, luthier, will speak on the science of acoustics.
  • Mid-conference reception with performance on a theremin: an instrument where the relative position of the artist’s hands to antennas manipulate frequency to control volume and pitch.
  • Five workshop sessions on multidisciplinary arts integration into the STEAM tenants: Arts in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math
  • Closing wine reception with a raffle of Montalvo concert tickets and final cello performance to integrate technological components.

Registration is free through the Santa Clara County Office of Education website.
