VENUE: Park Grounds
Learn about hydrosols with ethno-botanist Alice Encinas Duvernell and Montalvo Culinary Artist Andrea Blum! Hydrosols are the by-products of essential oils which have a variety of uses in culinary, medicinal, and cosmetic applications. They even work with mood and emotions, calming the mind and soothing fatigue.
This full day hydrosol demonstration/workshop will begin with a tour of our beautiful arboretum for a first-hand look at our various botanicals. Learn about the world of hydrosols and pure plant distillates that have a wide variety of uses in culinary, medicinal and cosmetic applications. Craft your own hydrosols from scratch using plants from the grounds, like the California Bay Laurel. This will include step-by-step information on how and when to pick plants, the manufacturing and sterilization process, PH levels, blending, and recipes. Experiment in aromatherapy and flavor with food featuring culinary hydrosols, aroma honeys and essential oils. You will bring home an 8-ounce bottle of freshly distilled hydrosol and will be ready for your own distilling adventures!
Note: Please bring a notepad, sun hat, sunscreen, and comfortable walking shoes. There will be an hour lunch break; please bring your own brown bag lunch. We will provide snacks, water and tea throughout the day.
