Summer 2007 at Montalvo!
Explore contemporary music in a stunning outdoor setting. Programmed primarily by guest curators, the season includes a series of benefit jazz performances and a program of Garden Theatre shows that highlight music as dialogue. Originality and interesting double-bill combinations, from folk to R&B, reggae to jazz and gospel, highlight artists whose music speaks beyond the melodies.
Contribute to a good cause while having fun. Choose from five events benefiting nonprofit Montalvo's arts and education programs. Enjoy dinner and a concert, or just catch the concert, with three jazz greats: Dianne Reeves, the Herbie Hancock Trio and Chris Botti. Our Summer Gala this year features a rare Bay Area performance by powerhouse vocalist Pattie LaBelle. We've also gathered a dozen chefs and 15 wineries at Montalvo's 4th annual Food & Wine Classic. This "tasteful" event includes live and silent auctions.
In the Garden Theatre/Music as Dialogue
See a unique double-bill with two generations of musical masters from Mali, Toumani Diabate and Vieux Farke Toure. Enjoy an evening with the legendary Mavis Staples, whose new album, produced by Ry Cooder, is garnering rave reviews; joining Mavis on a double-bill is guitarist-extraordinaire Bill Frisell. This season, you can also hear Los Lobos, a band that continually reinvents itself, with over 30 years of incomparable albums. An unprecedented evening of groove and roots awaits you when Lee "Scratch" Perry with Dub Is a Weapon and the Charlie Hunter Trio ignite the Garden Theatre stage. Celebrate one of Bob Marley's favorite bands, Steel Pulse, and catch a special double-bill performance by Canadian singer-songwriters Bruce Cockburn and Ron Sexsmith. For an all-day dose of singer-songwriters, check out our Fourth Annual Singer/Songwriters Festival. We are also proud to present Blind Boys of Alabama with David Lindley, Steve Earle and Loudon Wainwright, and Medeski Scofield Martin and Wood.
Montalvo is pleased to announce new student pricing for most Garden Theatre shows. Check individual event listings.
