Inspired by Nature: Poetry Workshop with Sally Ashton

This class is part of a series. The dates are: March 1, 8, 15, 22

Contemporary lifestyles in Silicon Valley can leave the poet yearning for the slow lane if not the nearest exit. If your inspiration is as choked and congested as Highway 85 during rush hour, find renewal through writing at Montalvo Arts Center.

Through the work of several well-known poets, this class will familiarize you with the broad genre of Nature Poetry and focus on writing skills in the process. Voice, form and image will considered. In-class exercises, discussion and take-home assignments - and Montalvo's beautiful trails and gardens - will inspire your poems-in-progress. Some writing experience is suggested.

About the instructor:
Sally Ashton, MFA, is a Bay Area poet, teacher and editor of the DMQ Review, an online journal featuring poetry and art. She is the author of a collection, These Metallic Days, and her prose poem collection, Her Name is Juanita, was recently released from Kore Press. Ashton is the recipient of an Artist Fellowship, Poetry, from Arts Council Silicon Valley.
