Join us for a poetry class series designed to give an overview of the heritage of California nature poetry and to deepen your understanding and appreciation of the art form. Considering these poets and their times, the class will read the works of early California writers ranging from John Muir to Robinson Jeffers to beat poet Kenneth Rexroth and more. The class will also examine contemporary poets including Gary Snyder, Jane Hirshfield, Brenda Hillman and former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Hass, and discuss their prevailing poetic and cultural influences, and how the idea of nature changes in their individual work.
