VENUE: Historic Villa
Raise a glass to toast Ann Packer, who has lived a rich literary life, indeed. Her mother, author and professor Nancy Packer, was Director of Stanford’s Creative Writing Program. Her father, attorney and professor Herbert Packer, wrote articles that remain classics in legal thought. Her brother, writer George Packer, covers U.S. foreign policy for the New Yorker. She counts among her friends many noted writers, including Meg Wolitzer and Michael Chabon. Her conversation with Maxfield will explore the joys and challenges of such a literary life, and will delve into Packer’s bestselling books, especially her most recent The Children’s Crusade.
Tickets include a delectable lunch provided by gourmet caterer Café Primavera, paired with wine by Cooper-Garrod Estate Vineyards.
About The Children’s Crusade
“Beautifully precise… marvelously absorbing… Packer is an expert at complicated relationships.”—Kirkus Reviews
The adult Blair children, still living near the family home, are disrupted by the return of their youngest sibling whose sudden presence and familiar troubles force a reckoning with their history and set off a struggle over the future. One by one, they tell their stories, which reveal the intricate ways in which childhood experiences and relationships set the course for adult life and return us to our earliest selves.
