He may be chef at the legendary Chez Panisse, but when his oldest son was preparing to go off to college, Peternell realized that even his own child wasn’t quite prepared to cook on his own. The result of that realization is Twelve Recipes, Peternell’s first cookbook, which outlines his philosophy of cooking in a charming guide for home cooks everywhere.
With full-color photos and gorgeous illustrations by the author’s wife and sons (all artists) throughout, Twelve Recipes is more than a cookbook; it’s a beautiful exploration of food and the way it enhances our daily lives.
Peternell grew up on a small farm in New Jersey and graduated with a BFA in painting from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. After graduation, he and his wife moved to Lucca, Italy, to pursue their art careers; but by the time they returned to the United States, he had discovered a new passion for food. He joined Chez Panisse in 1995 and has been a chef since 2000.
For this literary event, Peternell presents an intimate evening focused around the theme of foraging, with a specific focus on local mushrooms and chantarelles. He will read from Twelve Recipes and sign books. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served.
