VENUE: Lucas Artists Program Commons

Join us for a fun-filled and inspiring evening as we celebrate the launch of Lucas Artists Fellows Owen Driggs new mobile app and guided walk, part of their project Mapping Biointimacy, and host a roundtable discussion about failure in entrepreneurship and art, led by visiting scholars at SCANCOR at Stanford University, David Barbera and  Itziar Castello and  Editor in Chief of the Spanish cultural magazine Bostezo, Paco Inclan.

Owen Driggs and mobile app engineers Johnny Chen and Art Okada will lead visitors on a  brief interactive walk and introduce participants to the project Mapping Biointimacy, part of Montalvo’s 2013 Art on the Grounds exhibition, COME HEALING. Through workshops, a mobile app and a guided walk Owen Driggs invite visitors to explore the historical, medicinal, culinary and cultural significance of plant, tree and animal species at Montalvo, seeking to provide experiences that underline the interdependence of the natural world, and shed light on the intimate relationship between the health of our environment and individual wellbeing.

David Barbera, Itziar Castello and Paco Inclan will lead a lively roundtable on the theme of failure in entrepreneurship and art with invited artists, academics and  entrepreneurs. Confirmed speakers include Frank Ashton, active leader in the Slow Food movement, winemaker and owner of Downhill Cellars; Janet Owen Driggs, artist, writer and curator; Cass Phillipps, Executive Producer of FailCon, a one-day conference for technology entrepreneurs, investors, developers, and designers to study their own and others' failures and prepare for success; and Manuel Maqueda, founder of Kumu, an innovation lab for transformative activism seeking to learn, conceive, incept, incubate and measure innovative ways to accelerate our transition to a thriving, sustainable, and just way of life on Earth.

Join in with a participatory art activity. Sample gourmet fare from Melts My Heart food truck, and enjoy beer and wine.
