The Lucas Artists Residency Program continues its popular Final Fridays series, free events that take place the last Friday of the month and showcase the work of select artists in residence. This month we have composer Eve Beglarian presenting new work responding to her journey down the Mississippi River. Beglarian will be joined by students and staff from Downtown College Prep for a performance of the vocal project they have been working on with Beglarian during her tenure as Montalvos' Teaching Artist Fellow.
During the month of March, in conjunction with the Teaching Artist Fellowship, Beglarian is working with with a self-selected group of Downtown College Prep students and staff, who are learning the process of singing two multi-part pieces Beglarian has been composing and arranging while in residence at Montalvo's Lucas Artists Residency Programs. In addition to presenting their vocal project at a school assembly on March 26, the DCP group will also join Beglarian later that evening in performance at Montalvo's Final Fridays.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Eve Beglarian “is a humane, idealistic rebel and a musical sensualist.”
Her chamber, choral, and orchestral music has been commissioned and performed by the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the American Composers Orchestra, the Bang on a Can All-Stars, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the California EAR Unit, St. Luke’s Chamber Orchestra, and the Paul Dresher Ensemble.
