ABOUT BOLLYWOOD AND BHANGRA:
Bollywood: A blend of Indian dance styles, including classical Indian dance, folk Indian dance or more current R&B and hip hop music styles. A mix of symbolic hand gestures, facial expressions, and foot movements from classical dance styles work together to tell a story that lends itself to film. It first came to prominence in the Indian film industry based in Bombay, currently Mumbai (Bombay + Hollywood=Bollywood) and has since become internationally popular.
Bhangra: A fusion of music and dance originating from the Punjab region of India and Pakistan. In its earliest form, it was a celebratory folk dance welcoming the coming of spring. As a dance, it incorporates energetic kicks, leaps, and bends of the body set to the swinging beat of a dhol, or double-headed drum. Today, contemporary Bhangra blends popular Western music and dance with its original Punjabi traditions and is enjoyed world-wide.
