VENUE: Historic Villa
Mierle Laderman Ukeles is a sculptor, public and performance artist, Percent-for-Art-Artist of Fresh Kills Park (formerly the largest landfill in the world), and senior critic in sculpture at Yale University (2007-2008). Commissioned for Montalvo, O OAKS OH!, addresses the health of Montalvo’s land and focuses on the sudden death of some of its ancient oak trees. A public Day of Gathering/Learn-In in Montalvo’s Historic Villa on August 13 brings together scholars, spiritual leaders, experts and leaders to share their learning on both the perils of Sudden Oak Death and the ancient spiritual majesty of the oak. Ukeles’ project will conclude on December 2, 2009 with the installation of a video artwork projection and a second public conversation and performance.
