Lucas Artist Fellow Hector Dionicio Mendoza discusses the role of flora in his new body of work. The artist also introduces the Mexican holiday el dia de los muertos (the Day of the Dead) and explores the role the holiday plays in his life.
Join Mendoza and other Lucas Artist Fellows and create altars celebrating departed family, friends, community leaders, or other significant individuals and groups. He will also give a guided tour of his latest work currently on view in the Project Space Gallery as part of Botanica Poetica. Be sure to bring a photograph or memento of the individual you would like to celebrate; we will keep altars on view at Montalvo through November 13.
Lucas Artist Fellows Sandra Milena Gomez and Andres Solis will also discuss their new sound and dance performance, XLIII: A Contemporary Requiem, premiering at Mission Santa Clara de Asis on January 15.
This event is presented in association with the San Jose Multicultural Artists Guild’s 18th Annual Día de los Muertos 2015.
