Did you know that the taiko, or Japanese drum, was used to determine the boundaries of a village? Or that fishermen believed its thunderous sound would bring rain? The drum has been used for many purposes in Japanese culture, including an awe-inspiring musical tradition. Come celebrate America’s cultural diversity by learning about taiko and kumidaiko, the art of ensemble drumming with Japanese drums. San Jose Taiko masterfully weaves the history and philosophy of the art form into a spellbinding, high-energy performance for students.
