In the early 19th century, composers began adding an additional movement to their full-length works. These were intended to provide comic relief (scherzo is Italian for “joke”). In this program, the Saint Michael Trio will explore the evolution of the scherzo, including the tools used for humor and contrast. When it’s done, the audience will vote for their favorite and Saint Mike will send you out with a reprise!
