Double G and Sonus Quartet Conduct Master Classes With Saratoga High Students

On Friday, Sept. 18, Double G and Sonus Quartet conducted a Master Class with 75 of Saratoga High School's advanced orchestra and percussion students. For more than an hour, the charismatic and affable Double G spoke and Sonus performed excerpts from Double G's original chamber pieces, some of which premiered at Montalvo on Sunday, Sept. 20. The Master Class was interspersed with discussion on topics ranging from music theory, traditional and nontraditional string techniques, challenges in notating "new sound" for classical instruments, musicianship after high school, and more. After the Master Class, students and teachers gave up a significant amount of their lunch period to speak one-on-one with Double G and the quartet.

About Montalvo’s Master Class series:

The Master Class series provides students with unique opportunities to interact directly with world-renowned master artists representing all artistic mediums. As visiting artists come to Montalvo to perform or exhibit their work, a wonderful opportunity created to connect with local students.

Organized by the education department in collaboration with Montalvo's literary, visual and performing arts programs and the Lucas Artists Residency Program, these intimate workshops allow students to learn from master artists dedicated to their crafts and to educating youth.
