This fall, Montalvo will embark on a large-scale construction project to completely transform Parking Lot 2 and the lawn area west of the Villa. These updates will increase accessibility and expand our capacity for events and exhibitions. Most importantly, they will also dramatically improve convenience and enjoyment for our visitors.
Parking Lot 2 will be remodeled to create a wide circular drive leading cars past the front door of the Villa. This new configuration will improve traffic and pedestrian flow at our large events.
Above Parking Lot 2, where there is currently only a sloped lawn, a new terraced garden will be installed. With an open, flat layout, this space will be a lovely new setting for weddings and private events. It will also provide us with expanded space for art installations, and its plantings will be irrigated by a state-of-the-art drought-compliant watering system. It will be accessible by a newly built ADA-accessible ramp and a wider staircase to better accommodate crowds.
The project broke ground on November 2, 2015 and is scheduled to come to completion at the end of May 2016. It is funded through the generosity of private donors.
