Dave Koz & Larry Graham Get Jazzy Aug. 24

Dave Koz & Larry Graham

Our Summer Concert Series continues on Thursday, August 24 at 7:30pm when smooth jazz great (and Montalvo favorite) Dave Koz is joined by Larry Graham for their "Side By Side Tour" -- an unforgettable night of fabulous music in our beautiful outdoor Lilian Fontaine Garden Theatre.

Koz has recorded more than a dozen albums and has performed with many great jazz musicians over the years -- including numerous sold-out shows at Montalvo. Graham began as a bass guitarist for Sly and the Family Stone and is credited as the innovator of the "slap-pop" technique, a mainstay of funk music. When the two perform side by side, it's going to be a blast!

When you get your tickets, be sure to add Dining on the Terrace -- our pre-concert dinner experience on the front veranda of the historic Villa catered by ModernTaste. The menu for this concert includes grilled Knob Creek Bourbon tri-tip, roasted potatoes with asiago & thyme, a green salad with strawberries, seasonal vegetables, and crème brulee for dessert. It's the best way to make your night complete!

Don't wait! Click the button below to reserve your seats today.

Education Offerings in September

Ramayana -- The Indian Epic

In case you haven't heard, Montalvo offers all kinds of arts education opportunities for both adults and youth. Coming up next month, we've got three great examples of our diverse offerings:

Join us on Tuesday, September 5 from 6-8pm, to learn about Ikebana as Moving Meditation from renowned ikebana instructor Yuko Tiernan. A centuries-old art form, this Japanese floral technique calms the spirit, focuses the mind, and teaches the eye to identify beauty in the details of the natural world. First, you'll create a traditional ikebana arrangement, then transform it into a modern style.

On Monday, September 18 at 9:30am & 11:30am, grab your seat in the outdoor Garden Theatre for a special performance of Ramayana: The Indian Epic. Internationally renowned dancer and activist Mallika Sarabhai brings her her troupe to the stage to retell this classic struggle between good and evil in the dance style of Bharatanatyam. Don't miss it -- bring the kids! (Note: Mallika Sarabhai returns the following evening for a special fundraising dinner & talk; tickets are still available here.)

Educators, mark your calendars for Monday, September 25 from 4-6pm, as we bring back ArtistConnect for the new school year. Wine and light refreshments will be served as you network and share ideas with artists and teachers in an open and casual setting. We'll have a presentation relating to trends in the field of arts education, and you'll have an opportunity to join the discussion and connect with peers!

This is just a taste of the wide range of offerings coming out of our Education Department in the next year! From professional development opportunities to arts classes for adults to school performances, to Summer Camps, we offer something for everybody.
