Carriage House Concerts

On Wednesday night, we revealed our new season of 2018-2019 Carriage House Concerts -- a fantastic lineup that includes jazz, folk, rock, Hawaiian, world music, comedy, and even magic!

Tickets go on sale to the public starting next Wednesday, May 23 at 10am -- but Montalvo donors have presale privileges starting right now for the highest level contributors.

If you're not a donor and want the best seats to these shows, you'll want to join ASAP by calling 408-961-5849 during business hours, or by clicking here. The presale is tiered, so the higher the donor level you choose, the quicker you'll be able to purchase.
Many of our concerts sell out, so get your tickets early before they're gone!

In addition to our Carriage House shows, we've got four new Saint Michael Trio performances on the calendar, taking place in our beautiful historic Villa:

The Very Best of Dave Mason

Did you know that throughout the course of the year, Montalvo donors are invited to special receptions prior to our Carriage House artists? It’s true!

In fact, the next one will take place next Thursday, May 24 prior to the concert by rock legend Dave Mason. Guests will mingle in the historic Villa over hors d’oeuvres and wine, then make their way to the theatre to watch the performance. If you’re a donor attending the show that night and you’d like to join this event, please RSVP to Donor Operations Manager Taylor Welty at
twelty@montalvoarts.org or 408-961-5809.

If you’re attending the concert but you’re not yet a donor, there’s still time to join the party! Visit montalvoarts.org/give to sign up today.
Meanwhile, a very limited number of tickets are available to both of the upcoming Dave Mason performances (on May 24 and May 25). If you want to see the show, grab your seat now!

A Fascinating Look at Pithoro Wall Paintings

Pithoro Wall Paintings of the Rathwa Tribe

Join us on Wednesday, June 13 at 6pm for an engaging lecture: Pithoro Wall Paintings of the Rathwa Tribe, the first in our 2018 Montalvo Summer Nights series.

Over 9% of Indian citizens belong to tribal communities, among them the Rathwa tribe, who live in the forests of the Vadodara region within the state of Gujarat. Pithoro wall paintings are vast works covering the main wall of their homes.

Though often dismissed as undeveloped, the Rathwa have complex visual and performing arts traditions that are passionately practiced in accordance with their faith, a deep belief in their god Pithoro Baba. The purpose of the wall paintings is not to be decorative; they are part of an elaborate ritual and reflect a deep cultural knowledge, techniques of drawing and materials, as well as the tradition of passing from generation to generation
.

Guest Curator Sandhya Gajjar’s presentation covers the reasons why these paintings are made, the artists who make them, and the interesting contemporary feel they express.
