Celebrations that
span the globe

Marrakech

2015 is a year for celebration at Montalvo! We mark two important anniversaries: 75 continuous years as an artists residency and the 10-year jubilee of our Sally and Don Lucas Artists Residency campus.

To commemorate the occasion, our alumni Artist Fellows around the world are mounting events honoring Montalvo's commitment to supporting artists and their work. These events range from large parties to solo moments and interventions, in cities from Mumbai to Los Angeles to Marrakech and more. Follow along on our blog at blog.montalvoarts.org.

One of these parties is Friday night's spectacular Rock the Garden event on our own grounds! Join us from 6-10pm for an evening of music, performance, and interactive art. There'll be food trucks, beer & wine, and plenty to see as we celebrate our residency. The event is FREE—and so is parking (if you head over to West Valley College, Lot 5, and take the free shuttle).

Join our Facebook event through the button below and you'll see a list of some of the amazing coming to the festival. You can also invite your friends, and if you click JOIN, you'll see updates from the worldwide celebrations as they're posted to the blog. We hope to see you tomorrow night!

Last camps

winds down

Circuit Design, one of the remaining Summer Camps at Montalvo

It may be hard to believe, but if you've got kids, summer break is nearly over! The good news is that there's still time to sign them up for one or two last Summer Camps at Montalvo before they head back to the classroom.

Our innovative camps bring experienced, professional artists and educators to our beautiful grounds, where students can learn and get creative in a one-of-a-kind environment. Take a look at what we've got coming up:

  • July 27-August 7 (2 weeks!):  Handbuilt Clay Forms. Create your own sculptures and ceramics! Ages 8-14, 1-4pm.
  • July 27-31:  Sculpture 101—Intro to 3-Dimensional Art. Use wood, cardboard, plaster, and other materials to sculpt 3-D works! Ages 8-14, 9am-12pm; Ages 6-14, 1-4pm.
  • August 3-7:  Circuit Design. Create small circuits out of batteries, wire, and other simple materials! Ages 8-14, 9am-12pm.
  • August 3-7:  American Pop Star. Sing and choreograph pop tunes like your favorite characters on Glee! Ages 8-14, 9am-12pm; Ages 6-14, 1-4pm.

Michael McDonald
performs August 3

Michael McDonald

Join us on Monday, August 3, at 7pm as Michael McDonald takes the Garden Theatre stage for a memorable evening of the softest rock around.

Known as the lead vocalist for the Doobie Brothers from the late 70s until their breakup in the 80s, McDonald's hits include "What A Fool Believes" and "Takin' it To The Streets," among many others. His solo career has spanned more than three decades, and he has earned a total of five Grammys over the years. Don't miss your chance to see this legendary performer live in one of the Bay Area's best outdoor venues!

When you purchase your tickets, be sure to add Dining on the Terrace, our elegant pre-concert meal catered by Café Primavera. You and your party, seated on the beautiful front veranda of the historic Villa, wll enjoy a three-course prix fixe dinner. It's the perfect way to start your concert evening.
