Pianist Jon Nakamatsu & clarinetist Jon Manasse
make magic March 27
Montalvo's classical music programming in 2014 is something to get excited about: In addition to the Saint Michael Trio (see article to the right) and a unique evening of poetry and music with Ensemble San Francisco (see article below), world-class musicians Jon Nakamatsu and Jon Manasse will perform as a duo in the intimate Carriage House Theatre on Thursday, March 27, at 7:30pm.
Nakamatsu is a San Jose native who won the Gold Medal at the Tenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, among many other distinctions. Manasse served as the principal clarinetist of The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, has performed internationally, and was the youngest winner of the International Clarinet Society Competition. Together, Nakamatsu and Manasse serve as Artistic Directors of the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival.
The duo made a recent appearance with the San Jose Chamber Orchestra, and the result was a critical success through and through. The San Jose Mercury News called it "seamlessly composed with quicksilver clarinet-piano passages," and described the night's performance as "series of musical highs and of symmetry."
