Get Your Summer Concert Fix at Salsa Night

Salsa Night

Are you looking for something fun and new to do this summer? We've got you covered: Salsa Night on Wednesday, June 27 -- an evening of live salsa music and dancing on our beautiful outdoor Garden Terrace

From 6-7pm, we're offering an optional beginner’s dance class in the historic Villa with instructor Ruby Rumbera, where you’ll learn basic footwork, turns, and the fundamentals of leading and following. At 7pm, put your newly found skills to use as the San Jose-based band Latin Heat Salsa Sextet takes us into the night with irresistible rhythms, soaring melodies, and authentic Latin percussion.

Beer and wine will be available for purchase. The crowd will be lively! Come to listen or to learn—or both. It’s sure to be an exceptional night of music and dance at Montalvo, and a perfect way to kick off the summer season.

Last week, we revealed our brand new season of 2018-2019 Carriage House Concerts -- a fantastic lineup that includes jazz, folk, rock, Hawaiian, world music, comedy, and even magic! Performers include pianist and Peanuts composer David Benoit, world music innovators Banda Magda, influential rock & roller Jim Messina (all pictured above), and many more.

The great news is that tickets for these concerts are now on sale to the general public! Click here to see the entire list of concert dates. These shows have been selling to Montalvo donors for the past week, and many are already beginning to fill up. So, don't delay -- get your tickets now!

In addition to our Carriage House shows, we've also got four new Saint Michael Trio performances on the calendar, taking place in our beautiful historic Villa -- including showcases of child prodigies and women composers. If you have a taste for classical music, these are a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Click here to see the schedule.

We hope you're as excited as we are about this fabulous concert lineup, and we look forward to seeing you in the coming year!

These two masters of the island sound beautifully bring Hawai'i's unique folk styles into the 21st century. With origins in the early 19th century Hawaiian paniolo (or cowboy) culture, this selection of tunes performed by two incredible slack-key guitarists will take you away to a state of oceanic bliss.

Donor Profile: Peggy Dozier

Peggy Dozier

This week, we would like to shine a spotlight on one of our very generous and engaged donors, Peggy Dozier! Peggy served for six years as a member of the Montalvo Service Group, is a frequent guest on our ArtVentures, and in 2018 is sponsoring both our Moulin Montalvo gala and Bruce Munro at Montalvo: Stories In Light exhibition. In her own words, this is how and why Peggy became involved with Montalvo:

"I brought my children here over 30 years ago to Yuletide, to see the beautiful handmade crafts, and the villa decked out for the holidays. It was magical! I told myself when I retire I want to be a part of this wonderful place, to volunteer and give back in some way. So I joined the Montalvo Service Group and chaired the Summer Luncheons among other duties, but something was missing. You see, the arts are my passion and what better way to fulfill my focus than to get involved with the art that Montalvo has to offer: teaching math and science through art for children in schools, summer camps for kids, adult art classes, and our residency program which brings artists from all over the world to create their work! It is my pleasure to help support these worthwhile programs and to give the gift of art."

If you are interested in becoming a Montalvo donor, contact our Development Director Emma Moon at emoon@montalvoarts.org.
