Last Chance to Explore Life Beyond Earth

Life Beyond Earth

It's your last chance to get tickets to see SETI Artist-in-Residence and acclaimed musician Felipe Pérez Santiago in a lively evening of conversation and performance tomorrow (Friday, April 27 at 7pm): discover Life Beyond Earth -- an Open Access event that explores the possibilities of intelligent life in the universe.

The event will feature Santiago, SETI Institute President Bill Diamond, Program Director Charles Lindsay, scientist Dr. Jill Tarter, Lucas Artists Fellow Jen Bervin, and Montalvo's Lucas Artists Program Curator Donna Conwell. The panel will look at the exciting potential for creative synergy when artists and scientists come together to exchange ideas;
in addition, Santiago will also share excerpts from his ambitious live musical project "Earthling," which he is developing in partnership with Tarter.

Want to mingle before the program? Come early and enjoy cocktails prepared by a mixologist courtesy of Mezcal Meteoro, plus delicious tacos from Oaxacan Kitchen Mobile!

May 22: Three Jazz Greats Walk Into a Room...

Threadgill - Iyer - Prieto Trio

Don't miss a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see three of today's most astonishing jazz musicians making their West Coast debut as a trio at Montalvo: the Threadgill - Iyer - Prieto Trio will take the stage in our intimate Carriage House Theatre on Tuesday, May 22 at 7:30pm.

Time Out New York
calls Vijay Iyer "trailblazing…one of his generation’s brightest jazz luminaries." A 2013 MacArthur Genius, Grammy-nominated composer/pianist, and Downbeat Magazine Artist of the Year, Iyer is also Franklin D. and Florence Rosenblatt Professor of the Arts in the Department of Music at Harvard University.

Henry Threadgill has been hailed by The New York Times as "perhaps the most important jazz composer of his generation." A former Montalvo Lucas Artists Fellow, Threadgill is a 2016 Pulitzer Prize-winner, one of only three jazz musicians to have ever received that prestigious award (along with Wynton Marsalis and Ornette Coleman).

Cuban-born percussionist Dafnis Prieto is also a composer, bandleader, educator, and 2011 MacArthur Genius. His revolutionary drumming techniques have had a powerful impact on the Latin and Jazz music scene, nationally and internationally -- and garnered him a Grammy nomination.
