Literary Luncheon:
Alix Christie's sweeping debut

Alix Christie

Join us on Thursday, September 25, from 11:30am-1:30pm, for a midday literary and culinary feast! Author Alix Christie, in conversation with fellow author Katherine Maxfield, will discuss the writing process and Christie's enthralling debut novel Gutenberg’s Apprentice.

Gutenberg's ApprenticeGutenberg's Apprentice evokes one of the most momentous events in history: the birth of printing in medieval Germany. Rich in atmosphere and historical detail, it weaves together a story of invention, intrigue, and betrayal.

Christie grew up in the Bay Area and is a journalist and letterpress printer. She has reported as a foreign correspondent for several publications and currently lives in London, where she reviews books and arts for The Economist.

After the conversation, meet the author, pick up a copy of the book (available for purchase), and mingle with fellow literary enthusiasts!

And if you love books, stay tuned for info about our next Literary Lunch in early November!

Perceptual:
Chris Fraser and Justin Lowman
New exhibit opens September 26

Perceptual: Chris Fraser & Justin Lowman

From September 26-February 1, don't miss Perceptual: Chris Fraser and Justin Lowman, a new exhibition in the Project Space Gallery featuring two Lucas Artists Residency Program Fellows. These remarkable new works examine the relationships between light, space, form, and the senses.

Fraser creates environments and sculptures that explore the interplay between body position, movement, and visual perception. For this exhibition, a circle of lights suspended above a shallow metallic cylinder produces a pool of overlapping and intertwining luminous arcs that shift and transform as the viewer moves around the room.

Lowman's installations infuse vibrant colored light into architectural settings. For Perceptual, he uses projected and reflected light, scrim, paint, and sound to blur the boundaries between the interior and exterior space, creating what he describes as a “temporal multidimensional painting.”

Meet the artists at the gallery opening on Friday, September 26—and for Part 2 of the exhibition, in which new outdoor works debut, on Sunday, December 14, at 4:30pm.
