King of blues Taj Mahal
coming April 13 for two shows
"No artist has stretched the definition of blues like
Taj Mahal." -Christian Science Monitor
Two-time Grammy-winner Taj Mahal is considered by many to be one of the reigning kings of late 20th-century blues and roots music; on Friday, April 13, at 6:30pm and 9pm (two performances), he will take the stage at Montalvo's intimate Carriage House Theater, accompanied by his Trio.
Mahal's distinguished career spans nearly five decades, and is still going strong. He has invigorated American blues by incorporating the musical traditions of Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, and the Hawaiian islands.
Taj Mahal's work has been included on more than 50 albums, both as a solo artist and contributor. He has performed at the White House, received two Grammy awards, and been given three honorary university degrees. And even after nearly half a century in the musical world, Mahal says, "in many ways my music is just getting started."
Tickets to both the 6:30 and 9pm performances are going quickly, so purchase yours online today or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Monday-Friday.

Piano Master Joyce Yang
performs April 15
At just 25 years old, South Korean pianist Joyce Yang has already established herself as one of the world's premier young musical talents. She will bring our Piano Masters Series to a stellar conclusion with a performance in the intimate Carriage House Theatre on Sunday, April 15, at 7:30pm.
Yang started playing at just age four, and immediately displayed so much talent that her parents entered her in national piano competitions - of which she won several. She entered the School of Music in Korea at the age of ten, moved to New York the following year, and won the Juilliard Pre-College Division Concerto Competition.
She made her New York Philharmonic debut in 2006; in 2009, she was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. Yang graduated from Juilliard in 2010, receiving the William A. Petschek Piano Recital Award and the Arthur Rubinstein Prize. She has since toured throughout the United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia. At Montalvo, she will perform works by Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, and Lowell Leibermann.
Don't miss your chance to see this amazing performer in our final Piano Masters concert of the season. Purchase tickets online today, or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Mon-Fri.
