Grand Entrance & Garden Terrace are complete!

The new Garden Terrace

The ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of our new Grand Entrance and Garden Terrace took place this afternoon, and now we want to make sure you come visit us to see this transformational new space!

Parking Lot 2 has been closed since we broke ground last October, but it has now re-opened as the charming Sobrato Circle, with red stamped paving and a stunning view of the original Grand Entrance to the Villa. The new circular drive improves access for patrons, vendors, and shuttles, while opening up a space that's perfect for food trucks and art activities at our outdoor events.

After you park, stroll up the stairway or the accessible ramp to Charmaine's Garden Terrace. Named after longtime Montalvo trustee Charmaine Warmenhoven, the Garden Terrace is ideal for weddings, special events, and more. It will become home to the new bar and concessions area at Summer Concerts as well as intimate outdoor performances throughout the warmer months—it's also a great place to simply enjoy a book or a picnic lunch on a beautiful day.

Big thanks to our signature partners John A. and Sue Sobrato, Kathleen and Mark Santora, and the Hind Foundation, as well as everyone who sponsored bricks, benches, trees, and other components of this new space.

If you need a reason to come see how amazing it all looks, click here for a list of all of our upcoming events—but remember, our grounds, gardens, and trails are free and open to the public every day!

Romeo and Juliet
coming to Villa in October

Romeo and Juliet

Walk in the footsteps of the most famous lovers of all time as the renowned We Players perform William Shakespeare's classic Romeo and Juliet in a special production that will take place throughout Montalvo's majestic grounds.

We Players' site-integrated stagings blur the boundary between audience and actors; you'll be immersed in a 360 degree sphere of performance as history and the present moment merge in these one-of-a-kind experiences.

Attendees will be on their feet, moving between locations along with the actors as the action unfolds. Hear the clash of steel as sword fights fly on the Great Lawn; join the Capulets at their infamous masked ball in the historic Villa Montalvo; participate in the rituals of marriage and death in the Italianate Garden; and let Romeo and Juliet fill you with joy—and break your heart.

This is a limited engagement of seven performances. Space is limited, so get your tickets now! Dates are:
