Great Gatsby Gala a success!
$50M Endowment Campaign announced
The Villa was beautifully decorated and antique cars gathered on the lawn for the Great Gatsby Gala.
This past Saturday, September 22, 300 guests gathered at Montalvo for the Great Gatsby Gala, a celebration of our past and future that was filled with vintage costumes, antique cars, music, dancing, and plenty of surprises!

Guests got into the spirit by dressing in 1920s-inspired outfits, enjoying a cocktail hour in the Italianate Garden followed by dinner on the front Veranda, dessert in the Spanish Courtyard, and dancing in the Oval Garden to the music of Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers. Parked on the Great Lawn were vintage cars, donated for the evening by local collectors, and an actor playing Montalvo's founder Senator James D. Phelan chatted with attendees.
At dinner, Executive Director Angela McConnell announced the quiet phase of an endowment campaign to raise $50 million for Montalvo, led by our two Lifetime Trustees, Sally Lucas and Charmaine Warmenhoven. To inaugurate the campaign, Charmaine and her husband Dan donated $5 million and Sally and her husband Don donated $10 million. Montalvo also received a $500,000 grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation to fund the operating expenses.
In addition to ticket sales, the silent auction, live auction, and fund a need donations raised nearly $400,000 for Montalvo's arts programs and operations. Seven original works by former artists-in-residence were sold in the silent auction, and the live auction featured three once-in-a-lifetime experience packages. The call to fund a need generated nearly $100,000 in donations.

Along with Montalvo Members, Trustees, and friends, several Bay Area political leaders came to show their support: Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi and her husband Paul were in attendance, as were Congresswoman Anna Eshoo and State Senator Joe Simitian with his wife Mary. Thanks to all of our guests who made the evening such a tremendous success!

Raku Pottery Class,
Bring nature, science, and the arts together in Hand-Built Pottery with Raku Firing, a five-week class taught by Charlee Wagner on Tuesday afternoons from October 16-November 13!
The raku process involves firing clay at a high temperature, then placing it on a bed of natural materials (leaves, sawdust, pine needles). Smoke from these materials imprints designs on the pottery, creating beautiful art pieces which students can take home! Taught in the newly-completed Creekside Studio, this course is perfect for both adults and kids.
