See you at OneBeat
this Sunday!

OneBeat 2015

We hope to see you this Sunday, October 25, from 2-6pm, for our spectacular, free OneBeat Music Festival!

OneBeat musicians will be performing and interacting with visitors throughout the afternoon on different parts of the grounds. Check the program when you arrive for a more detailed schedule. Want a peek at what they've been working on? Click here to see a video of some of their early collaborations.

Be sure to wear your walking shoes and bring some cash for the beverage bars. There will also be plenty of food trucks for you to find a meal at.

NOTE: On-site parking is $10, but it is expected to fill up early; if you arrive later than 3pm, we recommend going directly to West Valley College (lot 5) for free parking and a free shuttle to the event.

OneBeat is all about sharing—click below to RSVP on Facebook, then invite your friends to join you for the day!

Botanica Poetica
is a "must see"

Botanica Poetica

If you haven't visited our Project Space Gallery to see the current exhibition Botanica Poetica, we want to encourage you to check it out before it closes in December.

The show, which features works created in our Lucas Artists Residency Program by fellows Kija Lucas, Monica Lundy, Hector Dionicio Mendoza, and Fieldworks Collaborative (Trena Noval and Ann Wettrich), is inspired by the horticultural diversity of Montalvo: our formal gardens, oak and redwood forests, and various exotic plants.

Our gallery is small, so plan to make a day of your trip by pairing it with a hike, picnic, or other Montalvo event. For an inside look at some of the work, click here to see a video of Mendoza creating some of his incredible pieces (like the one pictured above, which is entitled White Wilderness) in his studio.

The exhibition is currently scheduled to close on Sunday, December 13, with an artist talk and closing reception starting at 2pm.

Laurie Rubin's
incredible voice

Laurie Rubin

"Compelling artistry [and] communicative power"
                                          —The New York Times

Join us on Thursday, January 7, at 7:30pm, for a special performance in the intimate Carriage House Theatre featuring the talented, classically-trained mezzo-soprano Laurie Rubin.

Rubin, who has been blind since birth, has performed at both Carnegie Hall and the White House. With partner Jenny Taira, she created the duo PureLand last year. The two also recently collaborated on Peace on Your Wings, a musical version of the story of Sadako Sasaki, the Japanese girl who popularized the "cranes for peace" tradition following World War II.

Want to hear more from Laurie? Click here for a fascinating interview she conducted on KQED's Forum while she was in residency at Montalvo in 2013.

For this concert, Rubin and Taira will perform songs from PureLand as well as other original music—including the fruits of her residency with us: a program weaving the musical influences of classical, folk, and electronic styles and featuring poignant, personal lyrics.

To purchase tickets, click the button below or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Mon-Fri.
