Get Ready for Shawn Colvin, Roger McGuinn

Shawn Colvin & Roger McGuinn in our Carriage House Concert Series

It's almost time to launch our 2017-2018 Carriage House Concert Series, and we're starting things off with two exciting performances in October! If you want tickets to either of these upcoming shows, now is the time to buy, because tickets are going fast and they will both sell out.

First, join us on Friday, October 6 at 8pm for Shawn Colvin and Her Band's A Few Small Repairs 20th Anniversary Tour. Colvin's folk-rock melodies and cleverly crafted lyrics have garnered her multiple Grammys and a worldwide fan base. Her 1996 album A Few Small Repairs, featuring the breakout hit “Sunny Came Home,” launched her into the limelight. This special performance commemorates that landmark release

On
Wednesday, October 11 at 7:30pm, Roger McGuinn will take the stage. As leader and guitar maestro of the Byrds, McGuinn "helped give rock both a heritage and a vocabulary" (popmatters.com). His iconic technique was the sonic bridge between folk and rock, and his distinct sound is something that has to be experienced live. Add Bistro Montalvo to this performance to enjoy a pre-show meal in our historic Villa and make your evening complete!

Make Your Voice Heard on September 29

Open Access: Making Your Voice Heard

Join us for Open Access: Make Your Voice Heard on Friday, September 29 at 6pm. Artist Taro Hattori will offer a wrap-up conversation and visual presentation documenting his 14-month community project Rolling Counterpoint.

Involving multiple partners throughout the Bay Area and envisioned as a platform for dialogue about division and belonging in society, Rolling Counterpoint consists of two teahouses: one stationary piece installed outdoors on Montalvo's grounds and one mobile teahouse, which traveled to ten different locations in various cities in the Bay Area earlier this year (Cupertino, San Jose, Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco).

At the wrap-up event, Hattori will present a summary of the project and invite visitors to share their own thoughts and experiences of belonging. In addition, Now Hear This! artist Taraneh Hemami will activate her sound sculpture One Voice (Yek Seda) with performances by invited guests.

Tickets are just $10 (free for Montalvo members -- RSVP by emailing Taylor Welty at twelty@montalvoarts.org). Purchase through the button below or by calling the Box Office at 408-961-5858, Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm. And remember to join the Facebook event and invite your friends!

Upcoming Classes Teach Printmaking Styles

Printmaking Series

Are you interested in learning how to make your own creative prints using various styles and techniques? We have two upcoming classes that will get you started!

On Tuesday, October 24 from 6-8pm, learn the fun and versatile method of Intaglio Etching. In intaglio, an image is etched directly into the printing surface before being transfered onto paper. On Tuesday, February 20, from 6-8pm, get ready to embellish all your favorite clothes and accessories as you learn to SilkscreenThis class will offer silkscreening basics and demonstrate how to use registration marks to align various layers to screen print multicolored designs. Bring your own T-shirts, canvas bags, or other items you would like to print on.

No experience is necessary for either of these classes, so just sign up and get creative! Click below for the schedule, or sign up through the Box Office by calling 408-961-5858, Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm.
