Two more weeks
of Summer Camp: sign up now!

Fortalvo and a new bridge
Awesome: Kids have learned fort-making skills, bridge-building skills,
and a lot more at Montalvo's Summer Arts Camps this year.

We've been having a blast all summer long with all of the fun and creative kids in our Summer Arts Camps, but the season isn't over yet! There are two more weeks left of exciting, inspiring camps for a variety of interests.

Starting next week, we are offering a special two-week camp (Monday-Friday) for kids ages 9 & up on Handbuilt Clay Forms. This extraordinary camp offers a rare opportunity to create clay sculptures, then paint and fire them in a kiln.

Our week-long camps from August 5-9 include: Drawing with Dimension (Ages 6-10); Cinematography with Silhouettes (Ages 9+); and Meet the Masters: Portrait Painting (Ages 6-10).

From August 12-16, we are offering two camps taught by former Montalvo artists-in-residence: Culinary Arts & Writing (Ages 6+); and Drawing From Fantasy (Ages 9+).

Just take a look at the photos above. In the past few weeks, kids have built forts and bridges, learned to sing, dance, and draw, created comic books and works of art, and lots more! Give your child a unique chance to get outside, create, and make friends right here at Montalvo.

If you couldn't sign up this year, keep an eye out for info about our Winter Camps and next year's summer schedule, which will be released early in 2014.

Lewis Black back-to-back:
Get enraged August 15-16
Lewis Black

Get ready for comedian Lewis Black as he arrives to upend Montalvo's Summer Concert Series on August 15-16 with his famous brand of angry comedy.

Black's popular "Back In Black" segments on The Daily Show have been running for more than a decade, and there's still plenty to be upset about. His hilarious standup routines feature commentary on news, politics, and culture: he will have you rolling with laughter! Just be sure to leave the kids at home.

Tickets remain for both performances. Fill up beforehand with Dining on the Terrace, our delicious buffet-style gourmet dinner. Add a bottle of wine to your meal to make sure you're mellow and ready to enjoy the show!

Bells of Mindfulness shared; now their journey begins

Hanging one of the bells

We want to extend a big thank you to everyone who took part in last week's special Final Fridays event featuring the opening of Tiffany Singh's The Bells of Mindfulness.

More than 350 people attended the party, a fun evening celebrating art and community. If you were here, we hope you had a wonderful time; if not, don't miss out on the next Final Friday on August 30!

As Singh said in her introduction of the piece, it's a participatory experience that is meant to live on after she has finished her residency at Montalvo.

If you took a bell home at the end of the evening, remember that it is meant to be taken to a place that you consider sacred. When you put it there, please send us a photo, a description, or other information about the place by email to bellsofmindfulness@gmail.com. Then follow the journey of the bells here.

The bells have all been shared now, but another part of the work - the colorful assortment of origami cranes - remain in the persimmon tree in the Italianate Garden. Stop in for a visit, then walk the grounds to see all of our gardens, the newly restored Mermaid Pond along the path, and all of the amazing works in our Art on the Grounds exhibition, COME HEALING. FREE and open daily!

The Bells of Mindfulness!

We are looking for volunteers who would allow us to record where they put their bell along with a short interview about their feelings on what sacred space means.
