On Thursday, March 8 at 7:30pm, Dee Dee Bridgewater presents Memphis -- a program inspired by the sound of R&B from the mid-to-late 1960s. With a Tony Award and three Grammys to her name, Bridgewater is a powerhouse performer and global icon. Add our pre-concert dining experience Bistro Montalvo to this show to complete your evening!

Grammy winner Rita Coolidge takes the stage on Saturday, March 10 at 8pm. One of the most versatile singers of the rock generation, her hits include "Fever," "We're All Alone," and "Higher & Higher." Limited tickets remain to this show!

On Wednesday, March 14 at 7:30pm, we are excited to present singer/singwriter Karla BonoffBillboard says her songs are full of "soul-searching, heartache, and joy," and the Huffington Post calls her voice "perfection."

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, March 20 at 7:30pm, because you do not want to miss Storm Large. A former lead singer for Pink Martini, her powerful vocals are sure to blow you away. She will perform fan favorites and selections from her latest release Le Bonheur -- a collection of tortured and titillating love songs.

Who's in the Artists Residency?

Lucas Artist Fellow Henry Threadgill

Our Sally and Don Lucas Artists Program (LAP) is designed to offer artists from a range of disciplines an environment conducive to individual and collaborative creative practice. Lucas Artists Fellows are identified through an international nomination process that ensures support for highly qualified artists who have the potential to become major voices in the next generation of creative thinkers. Once selected, artists are invited to spend up to three months at Montalvo creating new work.

Right now, we are hosting an impressive group of highly respected artists, many of whom you can see and engage with at upcoming events!

Howard Hersh is an award-winning composer and musician whose newest work Four Bridges will premiere on Montalvo's grounds at a special Open Access event on Sunday, April 29 at 2pm.

Danez SmithMonica Sok, and Julian Talamantez Brolaski are poets who will perform as part of our Open Access event Don't Look Away along with Will Calhoun -- a two-time Grammy winning musician and co-founding member of the rock band Living Colour -- on Friday, February 23 at 7pm.

Henry Threadgill is a Pulitzer Prize winning jazz musician. He has recently assembled the Threadgill-Iyer-Prieto Trio to perform a concert in our Carriage House Theatre on Tuesday, May 22 at 7:30pm.

Other current Fellows in residence include Kalisolaite 'Uhila, a visual artist from New Zealand; composer and guitarist Yasuhiro Usui; and Grammy-winning jazz pianist David Benoit.

Get Poetic at ArtistConnect

ArtistConnect

Join us this coming Monday, February 12 from 4-6pm for ArtistConnect, your opportunity to network and share ideas with artists and fellow educators in an open and casual setting.

Our topic this month topic is "Poetic Exposure." The field of poetry is a rich artistic medium for learning about the world around us: poems can help us explore complex emotions, histories, and identities, often revealing surprising yet pertinent connections. In this ArtistConnect, we will present readings by local artists as we share methods for including poetry in any practice or profession. Presenters include Ashley David, Venus Jones, Serena W. Lin, Janice Lobo Sapigao, and Cintia Santana.

Bring a friend, colleague, or anyone else interested in poetry or the field of education who would like to join the discussion and connect with peers. RSVP on Facebook and invite your friends; this is sure to be an inspiring afternoon!
