Summer Luncheons Begin July 12
 
 
Summer Luncheons on the Veranda
 
 

Join us each Wednesday from July 12-August 30 as our own Montalvo Service Group hosts their famous Summer Luncheons on the front and side verandas of the historic Villa overlooking our beautiful grounds and gardens! 


These scrumptious wine and salad lunches are the perfect opportunity to create a memorable experience with your friends and family on a summer afternoon. Three seating times are offered for each luncheon: 12pm12:30pm, or 1pm -- and you can begin your day in the Spanish Courtyard with a board game, cards, or mahjong (please bring your own games). You'll even receive a complimentary glass of champagne and enjoy an informal fashion show while you lunch!

The menu (prepared by Elegant Events Catering, Inc) changes for each luncheon, so check the individual event pages for that week's offerings. Vegetarian options are available upon request and must be ordered at the time of your reservation; reservations must be received a week in advance. For groups of 10 or more or to order over the phone, call the Box Office at 408-961-5858, 10am-4pm, Monday-Friday.

Don’t miss Montalvo’s newest outdoor exhibition, focused on the simple but important act of listening. Now Hear This! features five newly commissioned site-specific sound-based artworks by distinguished artists Taraneh HemamiWalter KitunduHugh LivingstonShane A. Myrbeck & Emily Shisko, and Stephen Vitiello


Installed across Montalvo’s picturesque 
grounds, these immersive soundscapes and interactive sound sculptures draw inspiration from the local environment and explore how attentive listening can transform our relationship to the world around us and one another. 

The exhibition also includes the launch of Soundings, an immersive musical experience available for download through the mobile 
app Detour. Bringing the concert stage to the great outdoors, Soundings is an exciting way to explore Montalvo’s gardens and trails while listening to works by celebrated Lucas Artist Composer Fellows. 

OPENING CELEBRATIONFriday, July 21, 6–10pm -- Free!

The opening celebration will be your first chance to engage with the exhibition and participate in several additional projects that explore listening from different perspectives.

Join composer Luciano Chessa and his collaborators Ashley Bellouin, Stuart Dempster, Elana Mann, Ramón Sender Barayón, and Fernando Vigueras as they celebrate the legacy of Pauline Oliveros -- a central figure in the development of experimental and post-war music, and originator of the practice of Deep Listening -- with a series of sonic performances and fun opportunities for interactive engagement by visitors.

Participate in performance artist, filmmaker, and DJ Arshia Haq’s immersive sound and visual environment that takes inspiration from devotional listening and the Sufi practice of samaFinally, experience a live performance by guitarist/multi-instrumentalist and Lucas Artist Composer Fellow Mike Gamble.

Plus, enjoy gourmet food trucks, additional art making activities, and engage with artist Taro Hattori’s traveling community conversation project Rolling Counterpoint.

Our Summer Concert Series finally gets underway on Thursday, August 3, at 7pm as Jay Leno takes the stage in the beautiful outdoor Lilian Fontaine Garden Theatre!

Leno, who hosted the #1-rated late-night TV program The Tonight Show for more than 20 years, is one of the world's most recognizable names in comedy. Since departing from television in 2014, he has continued to tour across the country, delighting audiences with his hilarious, topical stand-up. If you're a fan, you don't want to miss him live!

When you get your tickets, be sure to add Dining on the Terrace, our elegant and delicious pre-event meal on the veranda of the historic Villa catered by ModernTaste. It's the perfect way to complete your night!
