On Thursday, November 8, at 7pm, don't miss visual artist Nina Waisman as she presents an evening of performance and interactive sound work in the historic Villa entitled Body Envelope. Admission is FREE!

This unique work consists of a beautifully designed chandelier suspended in the Main Hall of Montalvo's historic Villa: translucent tubes, wires, and sensors hang from ceiling to floor, creating an amoeba-like envelope large enough for a body to move inside. As visitors pass through the installation, they are surrounded by a variety of sounds and textures.

The piece will be activated through a special dance performance developed with several influencial artists, including dancer Mariah Maloney, dancer/choreographer Flora Wiegmann, choreographer/filmmaker Natalie Metzger, and others.

Waisman and the rest of the production team will host a Q&A after the performance, which is part of the ZERO1 Biennial's 9 Evenings program. Don't miss it!

Unforgettable concert experiences at Montalvo!

Nellie McKay
Nellie McKay performed during the blackout!

When the power went out in our whole neighborhood this past Sunday just before Nellie McKay was set to perform, we thought we might have to cancel the show.

Fortunately, Nellie was up for a challenge! She performed a lovely candle-lit set in the intimate Carriage House Theatre, much to the delight of the audience. Thanks to everyone who stuck it out in the dark for a truly memorable concert!

We've got plenty more great concerts coming up that you won't want to miss: master pianist Jon Kimura Parker performs his own arrangement of Igor Stravinsky's Rite of Spring this Sunday, October 28, at 7:30pm; the J.C. Smith Band and special guests present a musical tribute to blues legends on Saturday, November 10, at 7:30pm; and Peppino D'Agostino & David Tanenbaum present The Pacific Guitar Ensemble on Sunday, November 11, at 7:30pm. And the good news is: we expect the power to be on for all of these performances!

Purchase tickets to these and other shows online anytime or through the Montalvo Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Monday-Friday.

J.C. Smith
The J.C. Smith Band is "one of the top blues acts in the Bay Area" (Metro). They perform Nov 10 with Eddie Shaw, Kenny "Beedy Eyes" Smith, Vaan Shaw, Steve Lucky, Carmen Gettet, Sid Morris, and Mitch Woods.

Harry the Dirty Dog

coming to life in a

family performance

Harry the Dirty Dog

Join us on Saturday, November 3, at 11am, for our next wonderful Family Theatre performance: Harry the Dirty Dog!

In this charming adaptation of Gene Zion's classic book, Harry's insistence on avoiding bath time turns him from a white dog with brown spots into a brown dog with white spots. Gradually, he becomes unrecognizable to his beloved family. This performance, great for children and parents, will have you roaring with laughter while teaching your kids lessons along the way!

Harry the Dirty Dog is presented by the nonprofit California Theatre Center, whose goal is to offer a positive atmosphere in which young people can gain an appreciation and love of the arts. Tickets are available through the Montalvo Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Monday-Friday.

Hicklebee'sPurchase the books that inspired the shows! Our friends at Hicklebee's bookstore will be at each of our Family Theatre performances (Click here for the full calendar), offering books for sale so that your child can experience these stories again and again.
