Tomorrow night: Conference of the Birds Unfeathered & Final Fridays with Justin Lowman
Join us on Friday, April 27, for two exciting events with artists from the Lucas Artists Residency Program.
At 6pm, Final Fridays will feature artist Justin Lowman, who will discuss his fascinating project, Barn Rays. His work explores the relationship between time, light, surface, and color.
Circus Raniverous (2009), by Dana Harel, who created the set designs for Conference of the Birds Unfeathered.
At 8pm, proceed to the Carriage House Theatre for Conference of the Birds Unfeathered. Composed by Laurie San Martin and inspired by a 12th century poem, this unique performance incorporates voice, percussion, and computer processed sounds. Haleh Abghari and Chris Froh will be joined onstage by the Empyrean Ensemble in this inspiring musical story.
Tickets for Conference of the Birds Unfeathered are $20 for General Admission, $15 for Members, and $8 for Students. Purchase through the Box Office at 408-961-5858 and 2 tickets for the price of one!

Neil Doshi & Scott Barry of WOMEN
Join us on Wednesday, May 9, at 7pm, as Lucas Artists Residency Design Fellows WOMEN (the creative partnership of designers Scott Barry and Neil Doshi) and Montalvo's Associate Curator Donna Conwell participate in our final Chit-Chat Club, entitled Undesigning Histories.
This FREE and lively discussion is related to the timeline exhibition O'Great Reverie: Montalvo 1912-2012, which is on view in the Project Space Gallery through May 13. The panel will address challenges they faced while organizing the show and explore greater issues in the world of design today.
The conversation will take place in the Phelan Library in the historic Villa, and will be moderated by David Hisaya Asari, California College of Arts Adjunct Professor of Graphic Design. Montalvo Executive Director Angela McConnell named
"Woman of Influence"
The San Jose Business Journal recently printed their annual list of "Women of Influence" in the Silicon Valley, and Montalvo Executive Director Angela McConnell was featured thanks to the incredible work she has done to expand the visibility of the arts in Silicon Valley and her success at Montalvo over the past 3 years.
"It is my goal to bring Montalvo to its fullest potential as a multidisciplinary arts center, a superb arboretum and one of the nation's most sought-after residency programs for artists from all over the world," Angela says in the article. She and 99 other influencial women will be honored at a recognition dinner tonight in San Jose.

It was a beautiful day at Montalvo last Saturday as more than 2,500 people joined us for our 3rd annual Arts Splash! Open House & Student Arts Festival! We'd like to thank each of our visitors, our partners and sponsors, all of the participating schools and artists, the food trucks our incredible volunteers, and everybody else who helped make this event a huge success!
Special thanks to Mayor Chuck Page of Saratoga for honoring Montalvo with a proclamation recognizing our Centennial year.
