Summer Camps 2018

If you haven't made summer plans for your children yet, now is the time! Our 2018 Summer Camps are selling quickly, with some of them already sold out!

Running from June through early August and taught by top arts instructors and professional artists, our camps will give students a chance to learn skills, make new friends, and discover their creative talents -- all in the beautiful surroundings of Montalvo's scenic grounds.

Our diverse range of subjects include drawingpaintingperforming artsmusicdigital media, and a few Montalvo favorites (Spy Camp, fort-building, and more). New this year, we've also added a series of classes for teens that include an oil painting session, fashion design, a collaborative installation art workshop, and a music production course.

With so many options, there's something for everyone to choose from! Don't wait for these sessions to fill up; register today to lock in your space and ensure that you're ready for summer (because it will be here before you know it!).

Persian Electronica: Niyaz is Unforgettable

Niyaz featuring Azam Ali

Don't miss an incredible concert in our intimate Carriage House Theatre on Thursday, April 5 at 7:30pmNiyaz featuring Azam Ali.

An Iranian/Canadian duo and married couple, Niyaz seamlessly blends Sufi poetry and folk songs from their native Iran with rich acoustic instrumentation and state-of-the-art modern electronica featuring swirling, hypnotic beats. Ali's memorable vocals have appeared on soundtracks for Thor 2, the miniseries Children of Dune, and the video game "Call of Duty." Her bandmate and husband Loga Ramin Torkian is a master of the tar, the saz, and the electric GuitarViol.

With three critically acclaimed albums to their name, these fantastic performers create music with a deep social message aimed at uniting people from different cultural and religious backgrounds.

Next Thursday: Experience Open Air Electronica

Open Access: Open Air Electronica

Join us next Thursday, March 22 at 7pm for an Open Acces musical exploration: Open Air Electronica with Nicole Lizée, Ben Reimer, and The Living Earth Show.

Described as a “brilliant musical scientist,” Lizée is a JUNO-nominated composer who creates music from an eclectic mix of influences. She is fascinated by the glitches made by old technology and integrates them into live performances.
Her new piece, which will take place outdoors on our beautiful grounds, will be a collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Ben Reimer and the musical duo The Living Earth Show.

In addition to presenting Open Air Electronica, Lizée will also discuss her work on a multimedia opera based on Karel Capek’s Rossum’s Universal Robots, and how this 1920 science fiction story relates to our current context of rapidly advancing technologies.

This is sure to be a fascinating evening of music, experimentation, and conversation; tickets are just $10 for the public, $5 for students, and FREE for Montalvo donors!

Help Us Keep Winged Figure Ascending

Winged Figure Ascending

On the front veranda of the historic Villa, Stephen De Staebler's Winged Figure Ascending stands as a perfect welcome for visitors to Montalvo's grounds.

De Staebler is a widely collected sculptor whose works are a part of permanent collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, SF MOMA, the Smithsonian, and others. Over his 50-year career, he created totemic sculptures that explore the fragility of the human condition and our unparalleled capacity to persevere.

Thanks to a number of generous gifts, we are on our way to acquiring Winged Figure Ascending as a permanent work. If you would like to help us add the piece to our permanent collection, contact Emma Moon at emoon@montalvoarts.org. Contributions of any size can go a long way!
