We've got camps!
Do you have kids? Then join the scores of other parents just like you who have given their children a chance to get creative during the summertime here at Montalvo! Our 32 unique Summer Arts Camps are now open for registration, and we're sure you'll find the perfect way to get your kids inspired while school is out. Just take a look at what's available!
This year, the theme for our camps is Creating Wellbeing Through the Arts. We will teach and explore elements of play, self-discovery, expression, community, and environment all as a means to thrive. Each camp is led by a professional artist or teacher who will engage your child in fun new ways to find their creativity!
Flamboo! (June 10-14) teaches the art and fun of creating bamboo flutes, including an introduction to playing them! Students will come away with their own flutes to practice on at home. Comic Book Crash Course (June 10-14) and Zero to Hero (July 22-26) will give kids a chance to create their own comic book characters, learning aspects of both drawing and storytelling. And Fortitude (two weeks, July 15-26) is the ultimate fort-building camp!
If your child loves music, check out African Culture through Drumming & Singing (June 10-14), Rhythm Band! (June 17-21), You Can Ukulele (June 17-21), Kilele (August 5-9), GLEE Musical Theatre (August 5-9), and All Things Strings (August 12-16). And for the aspiring actors out there, Missoula Children's Theatre is back with two camps: Blackbeard the Pirate (June 24-28) and Alice In Wonderland (July 29-August 2).

Jazz guitar prodigy performs 3/13
Join us on Wednesday, March 13, at 7:30pm as the outstanding Julian Lage Group performs! But just who is Julian Lage? He's a former child prodigy and incredible jazz guitarist who you won't want to miss.
Lage began performing at age 6, and by age 8 his talent made him the subject of a 1997 Academy Award-nominated documentary film entitled Jules At Eight. A Bay Area native, Lage (now 25) has performed in some of the world's most well-known jazz festivals, including Monterey, London, Newport, and Montreux. He has also been a faculty member at the Stanford Jazz Workshop since the age of 15! Check out the video below to see him with his bandmates performing for NPR.
Want to hear more? Click here to hear Lage and his group kick off 2012 with a performance on NPR's Toast of the Nation. Purchase your tickets to this great show online any time, or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Monday-Friday.
Happiness in bloom:
Happiness Takes Shape celebrates the first International Day of Happiness with Lucas Artist Fellows Genine Lentine and Theresa Wong. The artists will offer an evening of reading and performances on the subject of happiness, as Lentine reads from On Growth + Form (an extended lyric essay), and Wong performs live on cello and voice.
For The Sound of Happiness, Lentine and Wong offer an afternoon of vocal and writing exercises exploring the relationships between voice, language, and happiness. Vocal improvisations, writing exercises, readings, and more highlight this voice and poetry workshop, which is suitable for all levels of experience and is open to all ages, including children! Click here to purchase tickets. Arrive earlier (11:30am) for Happiness is WALKING, a hike on the grounds led by artists Susan O'Malley and Leah Rosenberg.
If you've always wanted to learn to make your own pottery, we have the perfect opportunity for you!
Sessions will take place on Thursdays from 3:30-5:30pm, March 14, 21, 28, and April 4 & 11. All ages and experience levels are welcome, from kids to adults!
