2018 Summer Camps

Great news, parents: our outstanding lineup of 2018 Summer Camps has just been revealed, and we want to give you a preview of our schedule before they go on sale!

Taught by top arts instructors and professional artists from around the Bay Area, our camps will give kids a chance to learn new skills, make new friends, and discover their creative talents--all in the beautiful surroundings of Montalvo's scenic grounds.

We've got 29 sessions on the calendar for this summer, in subjects ranging from drawing & painting to performing arts to music to digital media. And new this year, we've added a series of camps for teens! With so many options, there's something for everyone to choose from.

Camps go on sale to Montalvo donors on Wednesday, January 17. If you're not a donor, now is a great time to join us! Just click here so you can register early and ensure your child's place in camp. Registrations open to the public on January 24.

Get Romantic with the Saint Michael Trio

Saint Michael Trio

Our resident chamber ensemble, The Saint Michael Trio, returns on Sunday, February 11 at 3pm for a Valentine's Day-inspired performance: The Music of Love.

The Saint Michael Trio (Russell Hancock, Michel Flexer, and Robin Sharpe) is hailed as Silicon Valley's update to the staid world of classical music, with concerts that are interesting, accessible, and oftentimes quite funny. Each performance is unique, riffing on a theme to showcase a variety of classical and modern styles. The Music of Love will feature songs by composers who have been bit hard by love -- some requited, some not. Bring your sweetheart and enjoy!

Open Access: the Lucas Artists Program Blog

Open Access: LAP Blog

Have you ever wondered what goes on at our Lucas Artists Residency Program? You might not know it, but ours is the oldest such residency west of the Mississippi River, and we host dozens of world-class Artist Fellows each year in live/work studios on the property. These artists work in a variety of disciplines, and spend their time creating new pieces, collaborating with their fellow residents, and being inspired by the beauty and history of Montalvo.

On our Open Access Blog, you can gain deeper insights into the works these artists are creating, learn about their processes, and get info on upcoming events where you can engage with them directly.

First, take a look at our new This Week in My Studio series, an ongoing collection of short statements from the artists themselves that give you glimpse into the projects they are working on while in residence. We are also partnering with Art Practical for a series of in-depth articles about some of our artists. And keep up with what our artists are doing after their stays here in Fellows in the News. Lastly, if you don't have time to dive into the blog, but want to feel inspired, plug in to our monthly Spotify playlists, featuring work created by past composer/musician Artist Fellows.

If you like what you see, be sure to keep checking back in on the blog regularly, as we are constantly adding new material!

One of the benefits of being a Montalvo donor is that you can receive invitations to our exclusive ArtVentures. These local, national, and international trips to see art and meet artists are offered to certain donor levels, and we're excited about an upcoming ArtVenture to Portugal from June 4-11, 2018.

On this trip, we will travel to both Lisbon and Porto on a seven-day whirlwind tour of both cities' most prestigious private collections, hottest artists’ studios, newest architectural ensembles, and most exciting museum exhibitions and gallery shows. Guests will enjoy luxury accommodations, fine dining, and the chance to rub elbows with art world elites.

If you'd like more information about how YOU can be invited to join in this or other future ArtVentures, contact our Development Director Emma Moon at 408-961-5841 or emoon@montalvoarts.org.
