Summer Camps 2018

Are you already looking ahead to summer? We hope so, because our lineup of 2018 Summer Camps is now on sale to the public!

Taught by top arts instructors and professional artists from around the Bay Area, our camps will give students a chance to learn new skills, make new friends, and discover their creative talents -- all in the beautiful surroundings of Montalvo's scenic grounds.

We've got 29 sessions on the calendar for this summer, in subjects ranging from drawing & painting to performing arts to music to digital media. New this year, we've also added a series of camps for teens. With so many options, there's something for everyone to choose from.

Camps have been on sale to Montalvo donors for the past week, and some of them are already sold out. So if you want to register, don't delay! Just click the button below to see the schedule and get started.

Three Open Access Events Coming Up

Open Access: Open Air Electronica

Join us in the coming months for three exciting Open Access events designed to provide a behind-the-scenes view into how our Artist Fellows and Guest Artists generate ideas -- as well as showcase works in process and fully realized new work.

On Friday, February 16 at 7pm, Dario Robleto and Jamie Drew will present the first in a two-part Life Beyond Earth series, exploring central questions about life in the universe. Robleto and Drew will discuss their participation in Breakthrough Initiatives, an international ten year program of scientific and technological exploration. In addition, Agustina Woodgate, Sebastian Bellver, and Stephanie Sherman will present their ongoing online nomadic broadcasting project radioEE.net.

On Friday, February 23 at 7pm, join Will Calhoun, Danez Smith, Monica Sok, Julian Talamantez Brolaski, and friends for Don't Look Away -- a vibrant and inspiring evening of poetry and musical performances by Calhoun (a co-founding member of the band Living Colour) and Brolaski's country band The Western Skyline. Guests will have a unique chance to experience how these artists use words and music to break boundaries and erase stereotypes.

On Thursday, March 22 at 7pm, Nicole Lizée, Ben Reimer, and The Living Earth Show will debut a brand new experimental musical installation/performance in Open Air Electronica. This outdoor multimedia piece will be inspired by sights, sounds, and emotions experienced in the natural surroundings of Montalvo's grounds. In addition, Lizée will discuss her work interpreting a 1920s robot opera and how the story still relates to our modern world.

Tickets to each of these events are only $10 (free for Montalvo donors; email Chris Wilcox to RSVP). We hope to see you!

Pasquale Esposito Will Make You Swoon

Pasquale Esposito

Get ready for an evening of beautiful music on Friday, March 23 at 8pm as Bay Area-based opera star Pasquale Esposito performs in our intimate Carriage House Theatre.

Esposito is a charismatic local favorite: though born in Italy, he lives in San Jose and performs worldwide. Hailed for bringing something exceptionally moving and unique to every performance, this gifted tenor has talent and charm to burn!

In his upcoming PBS special "Pasquale Esposito Celebrates Italian Piazzas" (debuting this March along with a new album of the same name), the singer travels to Italy to perform on some of the country's most picturesque and romantic piazzas.

At his Montalvo concert, Esposito will perform selections from the new album, a variety of contemporary Italian, Neapolitan, English, and Spanish standards, and some Opera and Pop-Opera. Don't miss what is sure to be a romantic and unforgettable show!

We Appreciate Our Donors!

Donor Party

Last Wednesday, we hosted our annual donor appreciation party with a cozy gathering in the historic Villa. Local wineries J. Lohr and Ridge Vineyards poured wine, which guests enjoyed along with delicious passed hors d’oeuvres. It was a warm and festive event, celebrating the generous supporters whose contributions make possible all of the important arts and education programs Montalvo puts on every year.

The event also gave donors a sneak peek at some of our upcoming events and programs -- including a special announcement about top-secret upcoming blockbuster exhibition that we will reveal to the public in March. To view photos from the evening, click here.

Do you want to be invited to exclusive parties like these? It's easy: you can join our delightful community of supporters by clicking the button below or by contacting our Donor Concierge Chris Wilcox at 408-961-5849.
