Join us May 20 for
An American Mosque
and a new gallery exhibition!
On Sunday, May 20, at 2pm, we will host a FREE screening of the festival version of David Washburn's film An American Mosque in the intimate Carriage House Theatre.
An American Mosque is an intimate portrait of American Muslim farmers and their effort to build a house of worship in California. It tells the story of an unprecedented crime that destroyed their mosque; yet despite the tragedy, the farmers are unrelenting in their dream for a religious sanctuary. The film premiered at the Cleveland International Film Festival in March.
Washburn, a digital artist who has created special effects for several major Hollywood productions, is currently in residence at the Lucas Artists Residency Program. He will host a Q&A following the screening.

"California Republic Redux" (2012) by The Marianas*
|
After the film, at 3pm, the Project Space Gallery will be open for our new exhibition, Montalvo Historical Fabrications and Souvenirs (A Pop-Up Shop). Artists Michael Arcega and Stephanie Syjuco, collaborating under the moniker The Marianas*, will be in the gallery creating their work with help from the public!
This exhibition features a functioning souvenir shop with fabricated "artifacts" from Montalvo's 100-year history. The work playfully and incisively examines notions of memory and the commodification of historical objects.
There will also be a series of FREE public workshops during the course of the exhibition, plus a "blowout sale" on Friday, July 20, at 7pm. Click here for more details.
