Go Into the Woods With Us Tomorrow...

Images from the proposed work, "The Collector" by Maximo Gonzalez

Join us tomorrow -- Friday, November 17 at 7pm -- for Into the Woods -- Commissioning Artists in a Forest: artists Máximo González and Howard Hersh will discuss works they are developing for Montalvo’s surrounding forest. These projects, which are in different stages of development, reflect on the psychological and environmental significance of our woodlands.

González’s work-in-process The Collector is an ambitious large-scale sculptural installation combining paintings, video work, and storytelling in an examination of our fraught relationship with our natural environment. He will discuss his process for developing the character of "the collector," and will tell the tale of a recent dramatic theft and subsequent recovery of much of his work.

Hersh’s Four Bridges is a new composition designed to be experienced by visitors as they follow a designated hiking trail. It features instrumental music, a children’s choir, poetry, and more. Hersh will present excerpts from the piece, and guest poet Cintia Santana will read from works that are being incorporated into the recording

Lucas Artists Fellow Ghayath Almadhoun, a Palestinian-born poet, will also read from a newly published book of poems and discuss his impressive body of work. Tickets to this fascinating evening are just $10 (free for Montalvo members), so get yours today!

ArtistConnect: Recipe Share and Storytelling

'Tis the season for holiday culinary traditions -- so join us for an evening of networking and recipe sharing at our next ArtistConnect on Monday, December 4 from 4-6pm in the intimate historic Villa.

With conversations centering around food, this month's gathering will explore how the things we eat can foster deep connections with history, culture, community, and the environment -- and how sharing a meal together creates an accessible opportunity for storytelling and the exploration of self identity.

Please bring a recipe and/or food-related story to tell the group. All are welcome! Invite a friend, colleague, or anyone else interested in the field of education who would like to join the discussion and connect with peers
