New issue of Content
features Montalvo trustees
and Artists Residency

Content Magazine featuring Montalvo artists

This week, we hosted a special pickup party for the new issue of the South Bay's own Content magazine. The brand new issue is entitled "ACT" and features local artists and innovators who are taking action to keep culture thriving in our community.

The magazine includes a profile of Montalvo's two lifetime trustees, Sally Lucas and Charmaine Warmenhoven, both of whom have generously donated money and leadership to us over the years. The insightful interview with these two visionary women sheds light on how much supporting the arts can enrich our lives.

The Lucas Artists Residency Program is also spotlighted, with a short profile of some of our current and recent fellows. In addition, Content produced a series of beautiful short videos about the residency and some of the work coming out of it. Those in attendance got a sneak preview, but you can keep an eye on our Facebook page as we release the videos over the next few weeks.

Content PartyThe pickup party was held at the Residency Commons, with invited guests including subscribers and people featured in the magazine. We had food trucks and light bites created by our Culinary Fellow Andrea BlumContent holds an event for each issue they release, connecting readers with artists and encouraging community building.

To purchase the new issue, visit Content's website here and choose Issue 5.3, "ACT." It can also be found at local Whole Foods, Sprouts, and other retail stores.

Big thanks to everyone who attended the party, and we hope to see you at Montalvo again soon!

Idol worship:
Crystal Bowersox brings
a bit of country to Montalvo

Crystal Bowersox
2010 American Idol runner-up Crystal Bowersox will bring her powerful voice and bluesy country-rock tunes to the Carriage House Theatre on Friday, December 6, at 7:30pm

Bowersox, who charmed audiences all over the country during her appearance on the hit TV show, went on to a successful recording career. Her new album All That for This showcases her talent as a singer-songwriter with a style all her own. And singing isn't her only skill: she will be performing on Broadway next year in the title role of the new show Always, Patsy Cline.

Don't miss this rising star in one of the Bay Area's most intimate venues! Purchase tickets below or call the Box Office at 408-961-5858 10am-4pm Mon-Fri.

EPIC FAIL
August Final Fridays party
celebrates art, technology, & failure

David Barbera

Join us Friday, August 30, at 6pm, for a fun-filled and inspiring night: Our monthly FREE art party, Final Fridays!

Start the evening off with a participatory art activity, grab some grub from the Melts My Heart food truck, and enjoy a glass of beer or wine as you mingle with artists and community members.

Then, amble through the trails with
Owen Driggs and engineers Johnny Chen and Art Okada in a short interactive walk introducing Mapping Biointimacy: a mobile app and guided tour of the grounds which touches on the cultural significance of plants and animals living in the Montalvo ecosystem. If you have an Android phone, you will be able to download the app and follow the project. You can also view/download a JPG version of the map by clicking here.

David Barbera, Itziar Castello, and Paco Inclan have created a piece for the Spanish cultural magazine Bostezo examining failure in entrepreneurship and art. They will host a lively roundtable with speakers including Slow Food movement leader Frank Ashton, Cass Phillipps, Executive Producer of FailCon (which is exactly what it sounds like), and Manuel Maqueda, founder of the innovation lab Kumu

We hope to see you there. If you're coming, be sure to RSVP on our Facebook page and share the event with your friends. The more the merrier!
