Ana Gallardo (Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a self-taught multimedia artist who primarily works in video, installation, drawing and performance. Her work has been exhibited at such venues as the Whitechapel Gallery (London, UK); Palais de Tokyo (Paris, France); Fundación Proa (Buenos Aires, Argentina); Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art (Austin, Texas); International Biennial of Cuenca (Cuenca, Ecuador); Kunstverein, Wolfsburg (Wolfsburg, Germany), among others. Recent solo shows include Pencas, Galeria Oliva Arauna (Madrid, 2014) and Sustituta, Galería Ignacio Liprandi (Mexico City, 2014). Much of her work reflects on the idea of insecurity as experienced by marginal groups like the elderly, infirm, and abused. For her recent installation project Pencas Gallardo spent three months working in Xochiquetzal, a senior home for former street prostitutes.
