Misako Inaoka, born in Kyoto, Japan, received her BFA (’01) in Printmaking at the Rhode School of Design and her MFA (’06) from Mills College in California. From 1999-2000, Inaoka spent a year in Rome, Italy, as a part of the European Honors Program. She specializes in mixed media with sculpture and site-specific installation. Her work has been featured in Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, de Young Museum, de Saisset Museum, San Jose Institute of Contemporary Arts, Stephen Wirtz Gallery, Johansson Projects, as well as galleries in New York, Seattle, Texas, Japan, England, China, and Italy. Inaoka is a recipient of the National Endowment of Arts for the MacDowell Colony Residency and S & R Foundation’s Washington Award. Inaoka has also been in-residence at the Headlands Center for the Arts, De Young Museum, MacDowell Colony, and Vermont Studio Center.
