Robin Lasser, a Professor of Art at San Jose State University, produces photographs, video, site-specific installations and public art dealing with socially and culturally significant imagery and themes. Lasser often works in a collaborative mode with other artists, writers, students, public agencies, community organizations, and international coalitions (such as her work in Egypt as a Fulbright Scholar) to produce art and promote public dialogue.
She has exhibited nationally and internationally at museums such as: The Recoleta Cultural Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina; The Caixa Cultural Center in Rio De Janeiro; The Aronson Galleries - Parsons School of Design in New York City; Wave Hill Glyndor Gallery in Bronx, New York City; Los Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles, California; the De Young Museum in San Francisco, California; the Osaka World Trade Center Museum in Japan; and the Academy of Film in Prague, Czech Republic. She also participates in international biennials such as ZERO1: Global Art on the Edge in San Jose, California and Nuit Blanche in Toronto, Canada.
Her work has been published in numerous books and periodicals including: The New York Times, Time Out New York, The Los Angeles Times, Flaunt, TOP (Brazil), Playboy (South America), Afterimage, Artpapers, Art Image and Identity, Facing Eden 100 Years of Landscape Art in the Bay Area, Women Artists of the American West, Made in California, and Artweek. Her work was most recently published in writer and critic Rebecca Solnit’s book Storming the Gates of Paradise: Landscapes for Politics.
Artists’ Robin Lasser and Adrienne Pao began collaborating on the Dress Tent project in 2004. It has appeared as an exhibition (photographs and installations) in the United States and abroad in Argentina (’06), China (’07) and Brazil (’08). It has been featured in art, fashion, lifestyle and pop culture magazines around the world including Space (China ‘08), Vision (China ’08), Amica (Bulgaria ’07), Playboy (South America ’06), TOP (Brazil ’06), Flaunt (US ’06), and many others.
Lasser lives in Oakland, California with her husband Jim Gold and son, Alex Lasser-Gold.
