SIMON PETTET

  • RESIDENCY DATES : Feb 28th 2014 to Mar 31st 2014
  • FROM : USA

English-born, long-time denizen of New York's Lower East Side, poet Simon Pettet is the author of Hearth, published by Talisman House, his Collected Poems. His new book of poems, As A Be, is forthcoming. Alice Notley has called him "American and British poetry's most meticulous craftsperson." John Ashbery wrote of his first book, Lyrical Poetry - "Simon Pettet's short poems have a great deal to say and their seemingly modest dimensions help rather than hinder his saying it..." and  Michael Lally has written (about Simon in performance) -  "Simon is one of the most interesting poets and readers of his own poems around for my money." He is the author not only of several books of poetry, but also of two classic works of collaboration, with photographer Rudy Burckhardt, the "underground classic," Talking Pictures and the quaintly-titled Conversations About Everything. He also co-edited Other Flowers, the posthumous poems of the poet James Schuyler, and edited a collection of his Art Writings for Black Sparrow Press. He currently divides his time between New York City and Toronto.
