Basics is an ongoing body of work exploring abstracted notions of form, space and utility, based on a constructive logic of additive 2 x 4 wooden studs that can be configured formally, spatially, and site-specifically. The work can be experienced both as an abstract sculptural gesture as well as a usable and interactive spatial environment. Neumann preassembled the two component parts of Basics and instigated a performative and communal raising of the sculptural parts―not unlike a barn-raising common in rural construction where a community would gather together to help raise a new building structure.
