GATHERING OF THE CLANS

By Bruce Munro

Location: Italianate Garden

Narnia is a land of speaking animals and Gathering of the Clans is a work of art inspired by birds, talking...incessantly talking. Indelibly imprinted in Munro’s memory is being rousted from sleep every morning when he was living in Sydney by the cacophony of native cockatoos. Both influences come together—along with the artist’s cheeky sense of humor—in this work. Ultraviolet light illuminates each clothes peg, which has been cut from fluorescent acrylic, in a color scheme that represents each of 12 species of Australian cockatoos.
