By David Middlebrook

(Back to Art on the Grounds)

As the title suggests, Haywire is a visual discription of something gone terribly wrong. This work - poetically beautiful - also questions what we take for granted; Middlebrook suggests that even one of the most common natural phenomena, gravity, could be altered as rocks suddenly become bubbles and float away carrying the crate they were delivered in. The freestanding cast aluminum and bronze piece is approximately 12' high.
