Using appropriated language taken from mid-20th-century pop culture, movies, and novels, Wiese’s sign-based sculpture features a rotating series of texts, including pick-up lines such as “Here I Am, What Were You Two Other Wishes?” and “Do you Want to Come Up and See My Etchings?” along with a partial quote from the mistress of the bawdy double entendre, Mae West, with “How Tall Are You Without Your Horse?” Interested in the playful, bantering quality of language from this period, Wiese explores the role of word play in our attempts to connect with one another.
