Niloufar Talebi is an author, award-winning translator, multidisciplinary artist, educator, producer, and TEDx speaker. Her book projects include editing/translating the bilingual anthology, Belonging: New Poetry by Iranians Around the World (2008), and Self-Portrait in Bloom (2019), a hybrid of memoir, cultural meditation, photo essay, and literary biography with selected translations of the Nobel Prize nominated Iranian poet, Ahmad Shamlou (1925-2000). Talebi co-created and produced Abraham in Flames opera (2019, composer A. Vrebalov), the operatic companion to her memoir. Her theatrical projects include ICARUS/RISE (2007), The Persian Rite of Spring (LA County Museum of Art, 2010), Fire Angels (Carnegie Hall, 2011), and other works commissioned and presented by Stanford Live, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Cal Performances, and the Kennedy Center. Talebi has been awarded artist residencies at Omi Writers, La Maison de Beaumont, San Francisco School of the Arts, American Lyric Theatre, John Zorn’s The Stone, and Washington National Opera. Talebi was a 2021-2022 Fulbright U.S. Scholar to Georgia and is currently working on her fourth book entitled Home Proxy Home.
