Brian Hargrove is a Los Angeles-based composer and pianist originally from Dallas, Texas. An alumnus of USC’s Thornton School of Music, Hargrove’s music is celebrated for its introspective tone and emotional depth, often exploring the human experience by weaving personal narrative into universal themes.
Blending influences from jazz, hip-hop, chamber, and avant-garde music, Hargrove creates fresh and dynamic sonic landscapes that transcend genre. In 2024, his large ensemble work, The Fluctuating Tides… As I Bask in the Warm Light of Serenity, premiered at Walt Disney Concert Hall during the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Noon to Midnight: Field Recordings series, curated by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Ellen Reid. His 2023 album, Intrinsic Episodes, showcases an eighteen-part suite of solo piano works, electronic explorations and intricate ensemble compositions.
As keyboardist, he was a long-time member of Roy Hargrove’s The RH Factor, has toured with Solange Knowles, and performed with artists such as Roy Ayers and The Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra. His compositional projects include work with Michael Jackson, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Strings, and Vesper Theatre Company.
